Academic Career
Stephan Karschay is Associate Professor (Juniorprofessor) of British Literature and Cultural Studies. He studied English, German and Pedagogy at the University of Passau and at King’s College London. Furthermore, he is an alumnus of the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes and of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Before teaching at the University of Hamburg, he was Lecturer in English Literature and British Cultural Studies at the University of Passau. In 2013, his monograph Degeneration, Normativity and the Gothic at the Fin de Siècle (Basingstoke: Palgrave Macmillan, 2015) won the Britcult Award of the German Association for the Study of British Cultures and in 2014 it was awarded the Karl-Heinz-Pollok Memorial Prize of the University of Passau.
