Society for the Promotion of Academic Inter-Cultural Activities e.V.
Is there such a thing as Intercultural Activities in the English Department?
Yes! The "Society for the Promotion of Academic Inter-Cultural Activities", ICA for short, was founded in 1997 within the English Department with precisely this in mind. The ICA provides extracurricular activities for its members and all students at the IAA. We organize lectures and excursions, and invite guest speakers and teachers to run creative writing workshops or provide information on studying in English-speaking countries. One of the aims of the ICA is to provide a link between the IAA and other institutions, for example the American Consulate General, the Amerikazentrum, the Open University, and the British Council. The ICA also funds the Amerikanistik-Prize which is awarded annually to outstanding exam papers.
The ICA has charitable status; therefore, membership contributions and donations are tax-deductible. The ICA receives no external funding and therefore relies on your contribution.
We welcome all membership applications, as well as ideas and contributions for enhancing academic life at the IAA. Alumni are, of course, welcome to retain their membership and thus stay in touch with the English Department. We plan to expand the ICA into an alumni organization of the IAA.
As a member of the ICA, you will be regularly informed about our activities and can play an active role in organizing our programme. If you have ideas for possible activities or need further information, please do not hesitate to contact one of the committee members - we look forward to hearing from you.
