Abstract: |
This project aims to apply basic cognitive linguistic concepts to English teaching in a classroom setting in a Chinese EFL (English as a Foreign Language) context. Cognitive Linguistics has a variety of tools at its disposal that can be of practical relevance to foreign language learners. Empirical research is called for to provide a clear illustration of how the respective approaches can be translated into effective teaching practices in the class context. Therefore, while testing the applicability of Cognitive Linguistics to language teaching, this project will demonstrate how cognitive linguistic theories can be contextualized in classroom practice. Furthermore, by providing empirical evidence in the Chinese context, it offers additional empirical evidence to the international research community. Last, it potentially opens up a gateway to the intersection of linguistic theory and pedagogical practice in a classroom context. |
