New at the IAA: Creative Writing
26. September 2025, von JH
The Institute of English and American studies is excited to launch a new programme of courses that will introduce students to writing fiction, poetry, drama, and narrative non-fiction. The IAA is among the first institutions in Germany to offer Creative Writing in English as an integral part of the English and American studies curriculum.
The courses will be taught by Dr Christine Lehnen, author of eleven books, including novels, narrative non-fiction, essays, poetry, and award-winning short stories. Dr Lehnen has also written treatments and scripts for television (ITV Studios Germany) and worked for many years as a journalist in international broadcasting, most notably for Deutsche Welle. She studied English and Politics in Bonn and Paris, earned her PhD in Creative Writing at the University of Manchester, and taught as Lecturer in Creative Writing at the University of Exeter before joining the University of Hamburg.
This new initiative marks an important step toward establishing the IAA as a pioneer in institutionalizing Creative Writing in English, and we warmly invite all students with an interest in literature, storytelling, and creativity to participate.
