Black Women Occupy Spaces of Power: The Case of the Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro
This study addresses the general theme of the political participation of Black women, using the Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro (ALERJ) as a case study. From a normative, theoretical, and analytical perspective of radical democracy, this research aims to analyze the construction of the political imaginaries of Black women within the left-wing political spectrum. It explores how their articulatory practices contribute to the formation of a political exercise of resistance against the exclusionary logic of institutional politics.Focusing on the central demand that spaces of power should be occupied by Black women, I investigate the meanings produced by this central demand, analyzing the discursive articulations of Black women and the political imaginaries that emerge from it. By examining these imaginaries, I also analyze the antagonistic discourses identified by Black women to understand the structures of domination and power and their manifestations that need to be deconstructed and disrupted. This analysis aims to pave the way for the emergence of an imaginary of a plural and emancipatory political representation.
