June is an important time for Forest Nenets — the wild bird chicks hatch!

The Department of Uralic Studies will guide you through the Year of the Forest Nenets starting from April 2024. Each month we will present you with an expression that roughly corresponds to our respective month. We look forward to this series, even more if you would like to discuss the cultural subtleties of temporal expressions with us — feel free to write to us at inel"AT"uni-hamburg.de.

Chick hatching month - June: small chicks hatch out of eggs.

Our picture shows a greylag goose with its goslings. Many anatidae species spend their summer months in the taiga region of the middle Ob near the Forest Nenets and give birth to their offspring there. In addition to greylag geese, other important anatidae species for hunters are greater and lesser white-fronted geese, as well as northern pintails and wigeons. Galliformes in western Siberia are not migratory and can be hunted all year round. The willow grouse, for example, is of particular interest to the Forest Nenets, as it gathers in flocks in the tundra in autumn and spends the cold season in the forest zone.

Месяц вылупления птенцов

В июне происходит кое-что важное для лесных ненцев - вылупляются птенцы диких птиц!

Каждый месяц, начиная с апреля 2024 года, Институт финно-угроведения и уралистики в рамках нашей ежемесячной рубрики "Год лесного ненца" представляет фразу, примерно соответствующую текущему месяцу. Месяц вылупления птенцов – июнь: из яиц вылупляются птенцы.

На нашей фотографии изображена гусыня с птенцами. Многие утиные проводят летние месяцы в таежной зоне средней Оби вблизи лесных ненцев и там же на свет появляется их потомство. Помимо серых гусей, другими важными для охотников видами утиных являются белолобый гусь и пискулька, а также шилохвость и свиязь. Курообразные в Западной Сибири не являются перелетными, и на них можно охотиться круглый год. Особый интерес для лесных ненцев представляет, например, белые куропатки, которые осенью собирается в стаи в тундре, а холодное время года проводят в лесной зоне.
