The Department of Uralic Studies guides you through the Year of the Dolgans since April 2025. Each month we will introduce you to an expression that roughly corresponds to our respective month. The names of the months are taken from the grammar by Chris Lasse Däbritz and our corpus. Among the Dolgans, October is known as the “Month when the ice freezes.” As temperatures drop, rivers, lakes, and wetlands begin to freeze over, and a solid ice cover spreads quickly. The ground becomes hard and frosty, open water disappears. Winter draws unmistakably closer.

У долган октябрь известен как «месяц, когда замерзает лед». С понижением температуры реки, озера и топи постепенно замерзают, а твердый ледяной покров быстро распространяется. Земля становится твердой и мёрзлой, открытая вода исчезает. Зима неумолимо приближается.
