Month when the face gets warmer

The Department of Uralic Studies guides you through the Year of the Dolgans since April 2025. Each month we will introduce you to an expression that roughly corresponds to our respective month. The names of the months are taken from the grammar by Chris Lasse Däbritz and our corpus. When the sun climbs higher in March, its rays can already be felt. The Dolgans call this time the “Month when the face gets warmer.” Snow and frost may still linger, but the growing light brings noticeable warmth – a sign that spring is on its way.

Когда в марте солнце поднимается выше, его лучи уже можно почувствовать. Долганы называют это время «Месяцем, когда лицо теплеет». Снег и мороз могут еще держаться, но растущий свет приносит ощутимое тепло – признак того, что весна уже близко.
