Autumn starts earlier where the Forest Nenets live than here - the leaves turn colorful as early as August and begin to fall around the time of September.

The Department of Uralic Studies will guide you through the Year of the Forest Nenets starting in April 2024. Each month we will present you with an expression that roughly corresponds to our respective month. September is the month of leaf fall: leaves fall from trees.

When the leaves fall from the trees, the grass also begins to die back and the vegetation in Siberia retreats. The deciduous trees in the forests on the Taimyr Peninsula and the Yenisei are mainly birch, but also alder, poplar and willow. 

In the past, birch trees were an important source of material for the Forest Nenets. The trunks were used to make pillars for tents and the birch bark harvested in spring was used to sew summer tarpaulins. Birch bark was also used to make baskets and containers for storing food and for hunting, such as quivers for arrows. The stability and flexibility of birch bark made it possible to produce a wide variety of vessels that were light and durable. Fortunately, this craftsmanship has not been completely lost and vessels are still made from birch bark today.

Месяц листопада

Там, где проживают лесные ненцы, осень наступает раньше, чем здесь - листья становятся разноцветными уже в августе и начинают опадать примерно в сентябре.

Начиная с апреля 2024 года, институт финноугроведения/уралистики проведет вас через Год лесного ненца. Каждый месяц мы будем знакомить вас с выражениями, которые примерно соответствуют ему. Месяц листопада – сентябрь: листья опадают с деревьев.

Когда листья опадают с деревьев, трава тоже начинает отмирать, и растительность в Сибири редеет. Лиственные деревья в лесах полуострова Таймыр и вдоль Енисея - это в основном береза, а также ольха, тополь и ива. 

В прошлом береза была важным источником сырья для лесных ненцев. Из стволов делали столбы для палаток, а из бересты, собранной весной, шили летние брезенты. Из бересты также изготавливали корзины и емкости для хранения продуктов и охотничьих принадлежностей, например колчаны для стрел. Устойчивость и гибкость бересты позволяли изготавливать самые разнообразные сосуды, которые были легкими и прочными. К счастью, это мастерство не было полностью утрачено, и сосуды из бересты делают и сегодня.
