Blockseminar: The sociolinguistics of bilingualism

Dr. Anna Fenyvesi von der Universität Szeged besucht im Februar die Universität Hamburg, um das Seminar „The sociolinguistics of bilingualism“ zu leiten.
 
Der Kurs richtet sich sowohl an B.A. Studierende als auch an Studierende im Masterstudium und kann im Optionalbereich, beziehungsweise Masterwahlbereich, gewählt werden. Anmeldungen sind noch bis zum 24.10.2019 über STiNE möglich.
 
Kursbeschreibung:
The aim of the course is to give an overview of the most important aspects of bilingualism as a societal and individual phenomenon from a variety of points of view: those of sociolinguistics, the sociology of language, language contact, and language acquisition. Issues to be discussed include minority languages, factors of bilinguals' language choices, simultaneous and successive bilingual language acquisition, biculturalism, and, most importantly, how to define "a bilingual". Class sessions will focus on aspects of bilingualism regardless of the language pairs in question, drawing on the personal experience of the class participants.
