Digital language research: ‘computation’ meets ‘interaction’Wann: Do, 12.12.2019, 10:00 Uhr, bis Fr, 13.12.2019, 14:00 Uhr Wo: Universität Hamburg, Edmund-Siemers-Allee 1, 20146 Hamburg, AS-Saal (3. Etage)

This explorative workshop brings together researchers from linguistics and informatics with expertise in the study of digital language and interaction. Virtually all research on social media communication depends on linguistic data, yet research questions and methods vary considerably across disciplines. Our workshop participants exchange views and approaches on issues of epistemology and methodology: How can we increase synergies between ‘computational’ and ‘interactional’ research on digital language? How to mediate between large-scale computational analysis and fine-grained, contextual understandings of digital language and interaction? What is the role of interpretation in the era of ‘big data’?
The workshop involves scholars from Indiana University, a long-standing partnership of Universität Hamburg, and is kindly supported by UHH International Office (Abteilung Internationales). Limited audience seating still available on a first-come basis, please e-mail <medienlinguistik.slm@uni-hamburg.de> for registration until 8. December.
